A network is being developed for European researchers in Japan including
Europeans who may not be doing research stricto sensu but have
connections with science, technology or innovation activities in both
public or private sector in Japan (e.g. European engineers, students,
investors, entrepreneurs, patent attorneys, etc.) and, European or
Japanese organisations hosting European researchers in Japan.
The network will provide web-based and other services for researchers
who want to improve their contacts with other European researchers in
Japan and Europe. This project is supported by the European Commission
(Directorate General for Research and the Delegation of the European
Commission to Japan).
In order to better understand the views and needs of European
researchers in Japan, the European Commission in collaboration with the
Embassies of the EU Member States in Japan and the other European
countries associated with the European Research Area, launched a large
survey among the European researchers there.
571 researchers responded to the survey, including researchers coming
from all-over Europe who are working in various Japanese cities.

Networking European Researchers Abroad (ERA) was first launched for the
European researchers in the USA (ERA-Link/USA) in 2005. (See
ERA-Link/USA http://cordis.europa.eu/eralink/about_en.html) It has
been providing an electronic tool to easily access information about
career and research funding opportunities in Europe as well as on
possibilities for research collaboration and exchanges. The European
Commission is now looking into making ERA-Link a global network with
specific branches in other countries and regions of the world.
The European Commission, in collaboration with the EU Member States, is
now preparing the next phase of the project: The design and technical
specifications of the ERA-Link/Japan. The network is expected to be
operational by mid-2008.

テレビ討論会で「あなたは進化論を支持しますか？」「宇宙と生命の存在について」「神をしんじますか？」などの質問が候補者に向けられた。

オバマ・ヒラリー・マケインそして・・・
サイコムネタからいきなり米大統領選にとぶが、今回のオバマ・クリントン・マケインをみているとアメリカの統治形態もそろそろ終りに近づいてきたなあ、と感じる。
オバマが選出されれば、リンカーンやケネディーにつぐ大統領暗殺事件が起こるだとか、ヒラリーが政権を取れば「カカア天下」に耐え切れなくなる共和党がクーデターを起こすだとか、オバマとヒラリーの対立で最後はマケイン（とんびならぬ鷹）が油揚げをさらっていく、などと、まことしやかともデマとも言い切れない話が耳に入ってくる。
１９７０年代の民主主義運動で予言されたことのひとつに、２１世紀の北米の統治形態は現在の合衆国制度から分裂国家に向かうだろう、というものがある。これは、北米社会が、伝統的なＷＡＳＰ層、黒人・マイノリティー・ヒスパニック層、その他の移民層、および人種を問わない富裕層のおよそ４つの社会的かたまりに分裂するであろう、というものだ。
現在の状況と酷似しているではないか。これを聞くと、民主の中でわざわざ分裂をしてまで選挙をするまでもなく、米国を４つの地域に分割してそれぞれが独自の政治社会を形成すればよいのではないか、と言いたくなる。
まあしかし、こういう「予言が成就する」状況に突入したこと自体、米国をはじめとする「新世界秩序」変化のフェーズに入ったということであろう。

サイエンスカフェねえ・・・
ライブドア特集【独女通信】を引っ張ってこなくてはならない・・・このあたり、まだはてなの使い勝手はいまいち・・・
まあともかく、サイエンスカフェの市民権がどうやら定着したようで、この活動を導入した一部の方々、文科省、大学関係お墨付きの偉い方々（笑）にとっては、こういう記事がネットニュースで流れているのを喜んでいるでしょう。
導入初期は、文科省の担当部署が某若者向けタウン誌広告代理店に大盛りザル勘定の仕事を発注するとか、某国営会話スクールのシンクタンクがひとり出張ってきて日本国内の博学連携事業をひとり占めするとか、いろいろネガティブなうわさのたえない企画事業ではありましたが、それなりに滑走路から離陸したということでしょうか。
いいんじゃないですかねえ、科学技術の研究開発もいまや付加価値商品の時代だし、こういう活動がヴァリューアップにつながるという考え方でしょ、つまるところ、ＯＥＣＤの科学技術政策ね、ＡＡＡＳとかロイヤル・ソサイエティーとか・・・

その後、とある研究機関が発行しているメールマガジンで読んだのだが、実は科学者側も「もっと自分の研究について話したい、とよく言っている」のだとか。しかし普通に話せば学会発表のように専門的になり過ぎてしまい、理解してもらえないだろう、さまざまな理解レベルの人たちに向けて分かりやすく話すのは難しい、というジレンマがあるのだそうだ。
